If you love wrestling you have to love real smash mouth moves. The Tombstone Piledriver, Sweet Chin Music, the Spinebuster and Spear are just some of those great moves.
Umaga has his own set of great moves like the skull crusher in the corner and the Samoan Drop, however the new way he nails his Spinning Side Slam is too dangerous.
Umaga is 6’4 and 348 pounds, so unless he is facing a Kane or Batista, or Mark Henry or man of great mass, this move should not be used.
All moves are obviously planned out and choreographed, however this move is an injury waiting to happen.
Umaga has hit Jeff Hardy several times with this move; however Hardy is like a rag doll in Umaga’s arms at 6’1 and 225 pounds. Both times Umaga hit that the Spinning Side Slam, Hardy landed on his shoulder, head, and neck area nearly folding him in half.
When swinging an opponent with the force of a man like Umaga on a smaller opponent, there is not stability. The opponent is victim to rotation and gravity.
Umaga originally used the move like Batista sometimes uses it where he holds onto the opponent and splashes down onto the mat with the other man – therefore creating stability in the move.
There is a reason the move like the sitting piledriver is no longer used – it is too dangerous because there is no head stability and can cause serious injury. Well, the same is the case when it somes to the Samoan Bulldozer and his slam.
Either Umaga holds on to his opponent as he swings him down to the mat below or he needs to drop the move. Otherwise this move like other moves that were not performed properly will injure somebody.
If there is one area you take extra pre-caution with, it is the neck and spine of a person.
It is time for the WWE to reconsider Umaga’s move set or at least this one move in particularly before someone really does get injured.
Unfortunately it too often that it takes an injury before a change is made. Hopefully no injury comes as a result of this maneuver.
